Experiments at the V&A

With a combination of throwing, joining, extruding and colouring the clays I am beginning to experiment with shape and form. I am really interested in making the extruded layer able to be lifted out when fired, so changing the form of the end piece.

V&A Work Inspiration

Here are some of my favourite pieces which I have found whilst walking around the new ceramics phase two section at the V&A. They include German Meissan Snuff boxes and French Pierced tableware. These have inspired me to begin experimenting to make a new body of work.

Conservation ceramics visit

On Wednesday I got the chance to go behind the scenes at the V&A and visit the ceramics conservation room. It was smaller than I expected, with only three members of staff working there. It was really interesting to find out that all the conservation wok done there was not with ceramics. Care was taken to ensure exhibits where kept stable and looking respectable for show or to get ready for touring. Plaster, tape and paint was used to get to the stage ready for the public to see. I was shown a small fire place surround which was being de constructed, cleaned and repaired before being reconstructed. It was made up of hundreds of small tessellating tiles coloured yellow, red, blue and white.
